Hanko III Victorious at Robbe & Berking Sterling Cup 2019

With good, but increasingly unstable weather conditions, the Robbe & Berking Sterling Cup 2019 took place at the Flensburger Segel Club in Glücksburg  over the weekend of 13 – 15 June.

Sadly Andreas Haubold’s “Marianne” was forced to pull out prior to the start of racing due to mast problems, which left five Sixes to compete for the trophy.

Ultimately the competition became a match race between  Robert Gierth’s “Lillevi”, GER 68, with Holger Köhne on the tiller and  Thomas Kuhmann at the helm of Hanko III, US96. After several enthralling dog fights “Hanko III” took the final race win and overall regatta victory. Third place by just a single point went to Ingo Steinhusen sailing Elghi II, FRA102,

45914064085_1d2661d147_oSilène III was designed and built in 1950 by the Swedish naval architect Tore Holm for a Swiss customer. She was constructed with mahogany planks and oak frames with bronze screws. The deck renewed in 1991 is of Oregon Pine with a traditional canvas cover. The deckware is from Harken. Silène III has been maintained by one owner for the last thirty years in Finland.

It is estimated that the value of Silène III is 95,000 eur (in water, ready to sail in Helsinki or Hanko in Finland, or at your own harbour in Europe in June 2019) but any decent offers can be honoured.
